Green BusinessAmerican Green Group Inc. has begun aggressive efforts to acquire green business opportunities. The company has contacted several parties both directly and through various mergers and acquisition companies to identify and begin the initial negotiations. John Cangiano, President of American Green said
“As of last week we have been successful in identifying three businesses for potential acquisition. We are very excited about these opportunities since they strategically fit with our goal of becoming a holding company of various green businesses. The opportunities include a green energy company that is the first to use a patented technology for burning clean coal and other waste materials for the production of power in the U.S., recovering 99.7% of the CO2 produced; a media company that publishes green magazines; and a new media company that provides publications and web-based services to green and environmentally friendly parties.”

Allied Telesis announced the AT-9000/28, the first of its low-power ECO range of products. The AT-9000/28 is an entry-level standalone Managed Layer 2 Gigabit switch with 24 copper Gigabit ports and 4 active copper Gigabit / SFP combo bays and is an improved and green replacement of the AT-9000/24 switch. It consumes 334 KWh* less power during the normal course of operations over a five-year period than the AT-9000/24, which it replaces. With a highly integrated design, the switch uses the latest high density, small geometry silicon, ensuring fewer components that actually consume less power.

IBMIBM Inc. has built its largest data center in Boulder using the green technology. Almost all of the original shell of the building was reused along with original material components. Vice President of IBM Global Server Systems, Larry Longseth, said that the building will save about 40 percent in energy with some partial alternative power.

Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., has announced the launch of the 2.5-inch MJA2 BH and MJA2 CH series 5400 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/sec mobile hard drives (HDD), achieving industry leading capacity of a half-terabyte (500GB(1)). It features the highest capacity to support full disk encryption (FDE) in a 2.5-inch form factor. The new series meets the cumulative demands of notebook PCs, desktop PCs, consumer electronics and other mobile technology applications. Some Cisco Systems Inc.’s partners say that, in fact, it does, even though the reason for customers buying into the idea of green networking might be other than helping Mother Earth. Cisco channel partners say that the green phenomenon is more than hype: some customers are demanding it. Brett Shockley, CEO of Spanlink Communications, Minneapolis said
“Regardless of what you think about global warming, the reality is that everybody is buying into the fact that travel is expensive and time consuming, and that commonality is getting people believing this way of thinking. We see large corporate initiatives around green, and we see IT and department initiatives around more specifically the benefits of green — cutting travel costs, working more efficiently. They are two points of view that get you to the same place.”
